What is Sex Therapy?
Sex Therapy is : a highly specialized type of psychotherapy that addresses the intersection of mental health, emotional wellbeing, behavioral concerns and relational issues and sexual function, intimacy, desire and pleasure. Intimacy issues can be addressed individually or within partnerships. Sex therapy can even help families find more balance and ease talking and addressing sexual concerns with their children.
Sex Therapy is NOT : sex therapy with a licensed sex therapist does not involves nudity, touch, or sexual behavior with the therapist. My ethical professional standards do not permit therapists to have sexual or social relationships with clients of any kind. Sex therapy can include sexually relevant homework to be tried and practiced between sessions. Most sessions end with empirically grounded, practical homework to try at home which is often accompanied by relevant resources, readings and videos.
Who is Sex Therapy for? : people from all walks of life can benefit from gaining accurate and comprehensive knowledge of how bodies function, develop self-love and confidence to advocate for emotional, sexual, and physical needs as well as becoming more effective at communicating with loved ones around sensitive topics. Sex therapy can help individuals gain more confidence, restore or improve sexual health, communicate more effectively, and work on achieving a more fulfilling sex life and sexual identity.
