Common concerns:
Gender Dysphoria
Gender dysphoria is a term describing the distress and discontent experienced by people whose psychological gender is discordant with elements of their outward physical, biological sex. Some people who can connect to this term can identify as gender variant, transgender, transsexual, transvestite, genderqueer, androgyne, two-spirited, gender non-conforming, or other. Sometimes, undergoing a transition from one point on the gender continuum to another can help alleviate some distress and discontent feeling a sense of authentic identity and well-being. This typically involves changes to social role and presentation, and may involve taking sex hormones or having gender related surgery.
Gender-care for people who are gender queer, gender fluid, or whose sex, gender, expression, and sexuality do not identify with the current social sex/gender binary is one of my specialties. It is my intention to provide useful resources and a safe, accepting environment to help people celebrate, accept, and love themselves. I can help connect you to communities that are supportive and safe as well as provide support for families and partners to navigate these issues gracefully. I understand that ones identity can effect every aspect of ones life and it is important for clients to have a therapist who is non-judgmental, thoroughly educated on gender care & sexuality, and able to navigate internal and external obstacles gently and effectively.
